David Gulick, district director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, is scheduled to hold a media briefing at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the upcoming transitional worker program for the CNMI, according to a media advisory from DHS.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the Fitial administration looks forward to seeing the proposed rules.
“We have been waiting for details of the federal visa worker program. We look forward to learning more about the program and we hope it will provide us with reasonable access to needed foreign workers, so that planned investments can continue and so that the labor needs of existing businesses will be met,” Reyes told the Variety in an e-mail.
The 60-day comment period customarily observed before federal regulations are adopted is not likely to be met because the foreign workers’ regulations will be applied on an interim basis. Nonetheless, Reyes said they expect to have an opportunity to give their feedback.
“We hope for an opportunity to comment and provide feedback,” he added.
