According to Haruo Wilter, a Palau Ministry of Finance consultant, Bussanich is in Palau to make direct assessments of the proposals that Palau has presented to DOI for funds and also to partake in the on-going talks in the review of Palau’s Compact of Free Association with the United States.
Wilter said that Bussanich will also be visiting schools, Palau National Communication Corporation, and other areas that are included in Palau’s proposals for funding.Bussanich, CIP Manager Brian Malairei, Kevin O’Keef – a US economist who is providing assistance in the Compact Review talks – Wilter, and CIP engineers toured all of the Compact Road. Melarei showed Bussanich all of the damaged areas of the Compact Road – including the areas that could potentially become problems, if not addressed. The most critical part of the road that the group visited was the collapsed section of the Compact Road in Ngchesar State. The group made stops at every damaged or defective area of the road.The group also visited Melekeok and Ngiwal elementary schools to a glimpse and a feel of what Palau is proposing to develop and improve its education system.
