James I. Somorang entered a guilty plea during a change of plea hearing before Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona on Sept. 30.
Manglona was informed by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Meyer, who represented the government, and Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig Somorang’s counsel, that the defendant wanted to enter a guilty plea in relation to the amended information filed on Sept. 30, 2009.
Manglona sentenced Somorang to 91 days, all suspended except for 51 days, with credit for 51 days already served from Aug. 12 to Sept. 30, 2009.
The court also placed Somorang under one year probation and he will perform 25 hours of community service.
Somorang will also pay $25 assessment fee within 30 days and an annual probation fee of $100.
“The probation fee may be increased on a proportionate basis, should the defendant not complete the requirements of his probation in a timely manner,” Manglona ordered.
Somorang will write a letter of apology to his victim Anunciacion L. Igisomar within 30 days as well as to obey all CNMI and federal laws.
Somorang will submit to evaluation for anger management and substance abuse at the Commonwealth Guidance Center and to follow treatment recommendation.
Manglona set a review hearing on Dec. 16, adding that Somorang’s failure to appear will result in the issuance of a bench warrant.
