Gov’t talks to Bangladesh embassy for workers repatriation

The president said earlier that the Bangladeshi nationals can help the former Guantanamo Bay detainees integrate in Palau.

However, Toribiong announced his plans of sending home at least half of the Bangladeshi population in Palau because half of them have overstayed.

According to the Division of Labor Statistics only 275 out of 480 Bangladeshi workers in the country have valid work permits.

“Sending them home is costly for us,” the president said.

“We follow justice and fairness,”Toribiong said.

He said that if there is a violation of the law, then the government will address the matter.

According to the statistics, the permits have either expired or employers have not yet paid their renewal permits way past the expiration date.

The president has also banned the entry of these nationals into the country.

The president justified the ban due to Palau’s lack of diplomatic relationship with Bangladesh and due to cultural differences.
