The new police officers who were sworn in on Friday and will be assigned to Patrol Division are Sherry Sisior, Stalin Mesubed, Telbiil Ngiraked, Great Alfonso, Peace Kemesong and Harris Ubedei.
The other three who will be assigned to Fire Division are Flavin Tiakl, Kelly Ngirturong and Murray Blesam.
They were sworn- in by BPS Director Norvert Yano.
Sisior, Mesubed, Ngiraked, ubedei and Blesam were all products of 17th Law Enforcement Academy. Sisior graduated from the Academy in September with the highest award. She bagged the Top Academic Award while Ubedei got the Top Physical Fitness award.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Minister Johnny Gibbons and four Australian Federal Police namely Paul O’ Brien, Peter Williams, Chris Barnes and Sally Fairbrother.
Gibbons reminded the new police officers and firefighters to be alert all the time and to step ahead of the criminals to prevent them from committing the crimes.
“Basically I congratulated them especially for choosing the line of work which is to become crime fighters which involves lot of risk because they have to deal with criminals in the society and so it’s risky and challenging,” Gibbons said in an interview on Friday after the ceremony.
“They have to be alert all the time and their basic duty is to protect lives and properties. It’s no longer in the classroom, they will be on the fields so they have to apply what they have learned from the classroom,” he said.
Fairbrother in a separate interview said: “We wish them all the best and it’s such a privilege to be here and witness their oath taking.”
Sisior in an interview said that she will do her best so that she will be a good police officer someday.
