Legislature to comply with smoke-free law

Acting Legislative Bureau Director Antonette R. Villagomez reminded all members of the House of Representatives and the Senate that Public Law 16-46 should be strictly enforced at the legislative building.

Villagomez, also the chief legal counsel of the House, said under the law, a person may only smoke if he is at least 25 feet away from any door entrance.

“An enclosed facility within places of employment includes restrooms, lobbies, hallways, or other common use areas. Smoking is prohibited in these areas too,” Villagomez wrote in a memorandum.

“Please adhere to the Smoke Free Air Act and refrain from smoking anywhere within the legislative building, including the restrooms, and within 25 feet of any entrance door,” she added.
