4th defendant in biggest ‘ice’ haul pleads guilty

He  faces not more than 40 years imprisonment and a mandatory five-year minimum sentence, a fine of not more than $2 million, a minimum of six years of supervised release, a  $100 assessment fee, and deportation, according to the plea agreement.

U.S. District Court for the NMI Designated Presiding Judge David Wiseman asked Huang through an interpreter if he understood his guilty plea.

Huang was represented by attorney Steven Pixley while Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto prosecuted the case.

Wiseman granted Benedetto’s motion to amend the information regarding the quantity of “ice” recovered from Huang to 13 grams, instead of 14 grams.

Wiseman set Huang’s sentencing for Feb. 16, 2010, while a written presentence report is to be submitted on Jan. 12, 2010.

Wiseman directed Huang, currently under no bail, to report to the Federal Probation Office.

Huang was arrested by Drug Enforcement Administration agents after local immigration officers detained him as he was about to leave the island for China.

The DEA said it was Huang who provided “ice” to Chun Mei Lin who then sold it to a confidential source for $6,000 in Chalan Kanoa on Aug. 29, 2008.

Local immigration officers arrested Chun Mei Lin at the airport before she could board a plane to China.

The DEA said Huang was Chun Mei Lin’s driver when they were stopped by traffic officers after selling “ice.”

Last month, Sheng Lian pleaded guilty to “ice” trafficking.

Huang, Lian, Lin, and Biao Huang were arrested in August by federal agents after a total of 1,021.4 grams of ice, worth $510,000, were seized from them.
