This month, school principals, administrators and teachers will attend a seminar on the accreditation requirements.
Public School System language arts and accreditation coordinator Steven Smith said Marilyn George from WASC central in California will visit Saipan to facilitate the seminar.
George will be a great help because “she’s an expert in the field,” Smith said.
The seminar will start on Nov. 14 and Smith will visit any school that wants to be assessed.
Next year the WASC team will be at Kagman Elementary School for a full self-study visit, and at Chacha Oceanview Junior High School for a third year progress visit.
In 2011, six schools are up for the WASC full self-study: Sinapalo Elementary, Rota Junior High, Garapan Elementary, Marianas High School, G.T. Camacho Elementary, and Hopwood Junior High School.
WASC will also be at Oleai, Tanapag and San Vicente for a mid-term visit. These schools’ accreditations will end in 2014.
This year, the accreditation of William S. Reyes Elementary School, Tinian Elementary School, Tinian High School and Junior High School, Kagman High School, and Saipan Southern High School were re-affirmed.
Dandan, San Antonio and Koblerville Elementary Schools received six-year term accreditations, while Rota High School was given a three-year accreditation term.
All these schools comply with the WASC requirements, Smith said.
Moreover, he added, Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan is helping ensure that the schools will maintain their accreditations.
