Women’s Affairs accepts budget cut

WAO has fewer employees and resources, she added.

There are more important services that need  funding, like those offered by the Department of Public Health and the Public School System, she said.

“WAO’s purpose and missions are outlined in law, but we are making the necessary sacrifices in order to prioritize government spending,” she said.

WAO was able to conduct certain community-related activities despite its reduced funding.

These activities included presenting a plaque to outstanding female graduates, supporting the First Lady’s Vision Foundation by providing books, computers and other useful materials to schools and the Division of Youth Services, providing fruit baskets to patients at the Commonwealth Health Center, and giving worthy and useful items to the manamko’.

Some local women, in an interview, said they do not feel the presence of WAO.

One resident who declined to be identified said WAO should be conducting monthly activities for jobless women.

WAO’s activities should not only focus on a certain group of people, she added, but also to ordinary women like her.
