Like the local youth, these young foreigners are also a major part of the community who need attention, he added.
“What they do and what happens to them affects us as a whole,” he said.
According to Lee, one of the top issues concerning foreign youth is their status after federalization.
He said he is grateful that the Department of Commerce provided umbrella permits to foreign students and foreign investors as well, adding it is one of the best things Commerce did.
He said foreign students should be allowed to stay if the CNMI wants to enhance its edu-tourism industry and have potential foreign investors.
“Foreign students are future investors,” he said, “and some of the foreign investors have children that are foreign students.”
He believes that improving the status of foreign students who are children or relatives of foreign investors will assure them that the CNMI is a good place to do business while with your family.
Bills and resolutions passed by the Youth Congress are submitted to the CNMI Legislature for its consideration.
