November is National Youth Involvement Awareness Month

The youth can also  participate in online activities at www.redcrossyouth.org and watch videos about the experiences of volunteers from different states.

The American Red Cross has over 169,000 youth members to date and over 50 members on island.

Members get first hand experience in different Red Cross services including disaster response, leadership development, health and safety services, biomedical services, school related activities, international services, armed forces emergency services and community services.

NMI chapter executive director John Hirsh said the Red Cross organizations at Marianas High School and Mt. Carmel School are among the most active here.

He said  the Red Cross appreciates the efforts of the youth volunteers.

“They participate in cleanups and disaster preparedness programs like preparing emergency kits,” he added.

According to Hirsh, youth volunteers don’t get material things from helping  Red Cross, but they gain experience and self-satisfaction with the thought that “they have served.”

The recognition of Red Cross volunteers on island is held in March but Hirsh said the chapter will be organizing a few activities later this month.
