CUC says it is generating more than Saipan’s power demand

As of Friday, CUC assistant executive director for operations Abe Utu Malae said they had a maximum load capacity of 49.5 megawatts with 10.95 megawatts as reserve capacity.

CUC’s projected power situation after the Aggreko contract was slightly higher.

Last September, CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said they could maintain 61 megawatts of total generating capacity from October to December.

Malae said five of the seven engines at  Power Plant 1 are online and producing 34 megawatts, while two of the four engines at Power Plant 2 are generating 4 megawatts.

Power Plant 4, administered by the Pacific Marine and Industrial Corp., is producing 11.5 megawatts from seven of its nine power engines, Malae added.

Engines 1 and 8 of Power Plant 1 are expected to generate 5 and 8 megawatts, respectively, after the overhaul work is completed  by April next year, he said.

Engine 5 will produce another 8 megawatts, for a total of 21 megawatts from the three engines, Malae said.
