A team of eye specialists from Australia will be on Yap from Dec. 31 to Jan. 10.
The eye doctors will be providing cataract surgery, laser eye treatments, general eye exams, eyelids surgery as well as glasses.
In addition, they will provide diabetic eye exams. The department is asking all people, especially eye patients who would like to be seen by the eye team, to be prescreened at the community health center or hospital. Prescreening has already started at all centers.
Prescreening at the hospital will start Dec. 14 and will be done by Dr. Paul. If you are not pre-screened, you may not be able to see the specialists.
The other team is from Canvasback, who have graciously offered their assistance to Yap again.
The group will be bringing a team of adult bone specialists to Yap in March 2010.
These doctors will be performing a limited number of surgeries to repair joints. Unfortunately, there will be only few knee replacements available to the community.
