Grace Christian Academy stages ‘Tiny Tim’

”It is basically an American sequel to Charles Dickens classic ‘Christmas Carol.’ We see Tiny Tim has grown up and he has become just like Ebenezer Scrooge had been. He is greedy and selfish and uncharitable. So we see that character a lot in Act 1,” said Sarah Klockowski, play director and a teacher at Grace Christian Academy

The twist in the play is that Tiny Tim has grown up and has moved to New York City. “We see the Ghost of Christmas Past being Lady Liberty, the Statue of Liberty; Ghost of Christmas Present is Teddy Roosevelt because its set in the  early 1900s; and the Ghost of Christmas Future is a western gun slinger,” Klockowski said.

Junior and senior high students and some elementary pupils are taking on the key roles.

The elementary classes will also participate by performing song numbers.

“So at the beginning of the play there will be a couple of songs done by the different elementary classes and then during intermission we will have some special music,” she said.

The following will play the main characters: Jonathan Salas as Tiny Tim, Monique Sablan as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Josiah Basaldua as the Ghost of Christmas Present, and Dae Min Jeon as the Ghost of Christmas Future.

“The students were very excited about being involved in the play. There was a lot of interest in it. We actually had about 50 students try out,” Klockowski said.

The students also watched the movie version of the Christmas classic.

“We took a field trip this week to see ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the movie theater. It really inspired the students,” she said

Klockowski said even though it is not specifically a Christian play, it presents a yuletide message.

“It’s definitely a Christmas message you see happening in Scrooge and in Tiny Tim. The spirit of the season is about how God has reached down and that we have been visited by the ultimate spirit and we can be transformed.”
