School band concert tomorrow

The band program is part of the school curriculum.

The    concert will include the beginning, intermediate, and advance bands from the fourth to eighth grades.

“Our beginning band starts with fourth grade. So it’s the first time that they are playing in the concert,” said Christina Nierras, band teacher.

The musical numbers that will be performed comprise different genres from classic to hip hop to rock and all are adaptations of popular Christmas songs.

The students have been practicing since August for the  concert.

“By the time the Christmas concert comes they are comfortable. They can play the instrument, read music, and dance with their instrument at the same time. Playing an instrument or with a band engages the mind and the students still have fun at the same time,” Nierras said.

The fourth graders will perform  “Jingle Bells,” “Up on the House Top,” and “Good King Wenceslas.

The fifth and sixth graders will play “rock” Christmas songs while the seventh and eighth graders will perform Bell Carol in African style.

Around 50 students will perform in the concert.

“It is for the students for them to be able to show what they have learned. Everybody can come if they want to hear music from us. It’s open to the public and admission is free,” Nierras said.
