Fitial: Taijeron resigned due to ‘internal conflict’

“I expect them to be working together closely and harmoniously but I understand that there are problems within the office,” Fitial told the Variety.

He did not elaborate.

Taijeron resigned last week, or more than three months after Attorney General Edward Buckingham chose him to be his deputy.

When Taijeron resigned, the Fitial administration issued a statement quoting the AG as saying: “Joe Taijeron was and is my friend. When I was asked by the governor to serve as attorney general, I requested that Joe leave the Legislature to join me. I appreciate and respect that he did so quickly and gave his best efforts to this office. We are substantially stronger today than when Joe rejoined the office.”

Asked about Taijeron’s resignation, the AG said: “As to personnel matters, I trust that you understand that personnel matters are inappropriate for public comment. Accordingly I must decline to comment further on this matter.”

Fitial said Buckingham will handle the situation at the AGO, including the selection of Taijeron’s replacement.

Taijeron worked as assistant attorney general and prosecutor from April 2002 through Nov. 2008 until his transfer to the House of Representatives as legal counsel.

He received a bachelor’s degree in government and international studies from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, where he graduated with honors.

He graduated from the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California, on a full academic scholarship.
