Legislative Bureau to fill vacant slot

Legislative Bureau Director Glena S. Palacios Reyes said they have already announced the vacancy on their Web site and have sent the information to the Office of the Personnel Management.

“I encourage qualified individuals to submit their résumés,” Reyes said.

She said there are already a number of individuals who have expressed interest in the position.

Reyes said the vacancy announcement will end on Jan. 8.

As soon as the bureau receives applications, it will review the résumés, set interviews and proceed with the selection process.

The legislative assistant is supposed to serve as a non-partisan staff member of the Legislative Bureau who will provide professional and impartial services to the Legislature and the LB.

He or she will perform research and analysis, draft legislative documents, attend legislative committee meetings and public hearings, and perform other duties assigned by the committee chairs and by the bureau.

Qualified applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S.-accredited educational institution, have ample knowledge of the legislative process, and possess excellent research, analytical and writing skills as well as the ability to produce results within limited time frames.

The new Legislative Assistant must also be willing to work under pressure on a daily basis.

Camacho is the brother of outgoing House Floor Leader Joseph N. Camacho.

George N. Camacho filed a leave of absence when he ran for the House of Representatives.

On Nov. 24, 2009, the bureau re-hired him for $37,000 a year.
