The Inkling: Worried free

I am almost certain that whoever has the light, which illuminates the future, is always a day ahead – one of these days he, she, or it is going to tire and the lights will dim.And then it becomes a bleak future – a time to worry about today!

As for now, I figure it is best that everyone simply stop worrying about the future. There is just so much that needs to be done before the end of the day today – “the tomorrow we worried about yesterday” as someone once said.Spending time worrying about the future has proven to be detrimental to our everyday living– and this is based on experience.

Worry, as far as I am concerned, is expenditure of a lot of energy on problems that do not exist.I know you and I face real problematic situations everyday – everything from something as simple as a broken fingernail to the complicated trend of the world economy crisis as it relates to the price of a barrel of crude oil somewhere in Saudi Arabia. We could have resolved all of them; however, we had to worry about everything else that could have happened and we forgot that we had each other. We now know better.

I had a chance to go through my storage shed the other day and was surprised to find that my wife and I have managed to store huge amount of things that we no longer needed.I am almost certain that she would testify that“we might have a need for them” in the future. There is practically no more space in the shed – the worry things have become feast treats for termites. In addition, our freezer has become a storage bin for leftovers and bits of unrecognizable “meringel a rengul” – the foodstuff that we have not figured what to do with, but would likely be edible when the world flips.

If only I had convinced my wife to stop worrying too much about the future earlier, our power bill would not have eaten too much of our budget and I would not be battling termites to save my shed.We are learning to live a little lighter.

As for the rest of Palau, worry has driven people to be independent of each other. It seems people are making every effort to build individual ladders that would connect them to the bright future. The bright future has blinded so many people – if you notice many are wearing shades. The shades hide their worried futuristic looks and yet, they wake up each and everyday worried about what the future holds for them.

I hope you do not worry about the future. If you have to worry, worry about the person next to you – how can you make his or her day less worrisome?Stop thinking about tomorrow and start doing something good today.Make today brighter than yesterday.
