Sablan treats manamko’ to lunch

It was a surprise visit for the manamko’, who did not know that they were about to meet the CNMI’s first member of the U.S. Congress.

During his visit, Sablan distributed the newly-minted CNMI quarters to the senior citizens as well as to the staff of the Office on Aging.

“He also explained a lot of things to the manamko’ about a new program for those who are 80-years-old and above — when they have their birthday, they will get a letter from the President,” said the acting Director of the Office on Aging, Rose Mondala.

Sablan spoke in Chamorro and in English to the senior citizens.

He was with his wife Andrea and his father Jesus.

“We had a good time and they were really nice,” Mondala said.

In other news, the senior citizens on Saipan are getting ready for their golf tournament, scheduled for the end of this month.

The senior citizens will be divided into groups and will compete against one another.

The manamko’ from Tinian and Rota are planning to schedule an inter-island game so they can compete with their Saipan counterparts.

“It’s the safest recreational activity for the senior citizens,” said Walter Manglona, program coordinator of the Office on Aging.
