Tinian officer in child abuse case fails to post bail

Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman has set Ayuyu’s bail at $5,000, or 10 percent of $50,000 bail initially set.

The remaining $45,000 is to be posted as an unsecured bond by Ayuyu who appeared representing himself during his initial court appearance on Thursday.

His arraignment was set for Jan. 25.

In other news, the court approved the release of Denmar E. Malabanan, 21, to his mother Sylvia Escareces, of As Perdido, as third-party custodian.

Malabanan posted a $5,000 bail in unsecured bond.

Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig represented Malabanan during his bail modification hearing on Friday.

Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo set the arraignment for Jan. 19 and named Sean E. Frink as the court-appointed lawyer for Malabanan after the Office of the Public Defender withdrew “due to conflict of interest.”

Malabanan was arrested in Chalan Kanoa on New Year’s Eve for child abuse.
