Barcinas is UBA top scorer; fans to help choose MVP

UBA President James Lee said the coaches of the eight teams have already submitted their respective nominees for MVP.

An MVP nominee, Lee said is what the coach sees as the all-around player of the team.

The selection should be based on the total number of points scored, number of offensive and defensive rebounds and the number of assists, steals and blocks made.

Among the MVP nominees, New Fresh Ol’ Aces’ Dan Barcinas topped the regular season scorers’ list tallying 157 points.

Barcinas who scored 22 points in their final regular season game against the Cholos Wednesday night grabbed 41 defensive rebounds and 27 offensive rebounds.

He took 55 steals, blocked seven shots and set successful plays with 37 assists.

Trinity Estate’s Roger Herrera who hit only for three-pointers but invested much in two points finished with a total of 137 points. He had 23 defensive rebounds and 15 offensives rebounds.

Herrera also had 17 assists, 19 steals and one block.

Raymond Cadagat whose 23 markers led the Prospects in beating Noni Saipan last Wednesday totaled 135 points. He had a total of 16 rebounds, 47 assists and 24 steals.

Kelvin Bernardo of Noni Saipan tallied 134 points, 44 offensive rebounds, 39 defensive rebounds, seven assists, 10 steals and six blocks.

Advance Xterminators’ Jhun Estolas and Cholos’ Won Joo Jung had 122 points apiece in the regular season.

Estolas however, made it up with 48 assists. He had seven offensive rebounds, 18 defensive rebounds, 12 steals and one shot block.

Won on the other hand, had 27 offensive rebounds, 29 defensive rebounds, 14 assists, 12 steals and two shot blocks.

JR Barrios of the Diamond Fixers completed 121 points. He had 11 offensive rebounds, 20 defensive rebounds, 27 assists, 14 steals and one shot block.

Melvin Manibusan helped the Hoopaholics crawl up halfway to the end of the season with 61 points, 24 offensive rebounds, 41 defensive rebounds, 11 assists, 15 steals and 10 shot blocks.

As the playoff starts tonight, fans will get to vote for the MVP. They will fill-out 100 ballots that will be distributed on the bleachers.

Then, the UBA and Miller will pick the top three nominees voted by the fans. UBA, Miller and the coaches will then, decide among the three for the regular season MVP who will receive the first UBA/Miller Men’s League MVP trophy, cellphone and LD cards from Docomo.

The hoops organizers, Lee said will throw a party at the Club V on Jan. 29.
