Her termination of the long-time educator without an explanation resulted in a barrage of criticism against her leadership.
Fernandez, in an interview, said her schedule was fully booked, giving her no chance to meet McPhetres.
Fernandez said she cannot say anything about re-hiring McPhetres for now.
“It depends on the settlement that we are going to have,” she said, “and I am looking forward to meeting with him.”
McPhetres earlier told Variety that Fernandez did not try to reach out to him.
He said his lawyers were informed that the NMC president was busy with the ongoing registration of students.
Asked if he is looking forward to filing a lawsuit against Fernandez, he said: “I am still looking forward to meeting with her and I do not want to make any [legal] moves for now.”
He doubts whether Fernandez will offer him another contract as an instructor because the registration is now taking place at the college and classes will soon begin.
Some students interviewed by this reporter said they are hoping that McPhetres will be their instructor again.
“He’s been good and he’s been the best,” one of them said. “We hope to see him back.”
