Of the 100 ballots distributed during the playoff matches, 72 fans cast their votes with Bernardo edging Advance Xterminators’ Jhun Estolas with only one vote.
Bernardo had 22 votes while Estolas had 21.
Hoopaholics’ Melvin Manibusan garnered 10 votes; Prospects’ point guard, Raymond Cadagat 8; New Fresh Ol’ Aces’ top gun, Dan Barcinas, 7; Diamond Fixers’ JR Barrios, 3 and Trinity Estate’s top scorer, Roger Herrera 1.
The selection of MVP however, did not end there.
UBA President James Lee said that from among the top three nominees, the UBA board and the league committee chose the final winner.
Bernardo tallied 134 points during the entire regular season, and grabbed the most offensive rebounds that became instrumental to their victories against equally powerful teams.
He also helped Noni Saipan clamp down on defense with 39 defensive rebounds, seven assists, 10 steals and six blocks.
Estolas on the other hand scored 122 points and season-high 48 successful assists. He helped the Xterminators tighten defense with 18 defensive rebounds, 12 steals and one block.
Manibusan had 61 points 24 offensive rebounds, 41 defensive rebounds, 11 assists, 15 steals and 10 blocks.
Cadagat scored 135 points, nine offensive rebounds, seven defensive rebounds, 47 assists and 24 steals.
Barcinas was the top scorer in the regular season with 157 points. He had 27 offensive rebounds, 41 defensive rebounds, 37 assists, 55 steals and seven blocks.
Barrios scored 121 points, had 11 offensive rebounds, 20 defensive rebounds, 27 assists, 14 steals and one block.
Herrera scored 137 points, 15 offensive rebounds, 23 defensive rebounds, 17 assists, 19 steals and one block.
