Lawmakers: Government should absorb displaced immigration personnel

The division shut down on Dec. 31, one month after the federal government took over local immigration.

Palacios, R-Saipan, said the incoming 17th Legislative and the executive branch should allow the other former Immigration personnel to find work in the CNMI government.

Outgoing Rep. Victor B. Hocog, Ind.-Rota, in a separate interview, said he is hoping that the administration will provide employment to the remaining displaced Immigration personnel.

Some of them were about to retire, he added.

Hocog said it would be “inhumane” not to help these personnel “who have religiously worked for the CNMI.”
