Letter to the Editor: Geronimo!

Once again we have the spectacle of the zoning director bailing out, leaving unworkable plans in his wake. The problem, as I see it, is we keep picking people who have no stake in the zoning outcome as leadership in this department.

Reason would suggest that we look at someone who understands the local lifestyle, has a clue about the island’s geography and cares about fairness. Drawing fanciful maps which ignore traditional usage does not make our island a better place for us or our tourists. We need to keep more than education in mind when choosing our next administrator. An educated fool with his head in the sand does us no good.

Can we please pick someone who has his finger on the pulse of our island? Where we have come from, where we would like to go instead of a mindless adherence to a map drawn on whims and guesses. Then we need to task that person with rewriting the zoning regulations. Otherwise, we will see another repeat retreat to the mainland once things go wrong again over in Dandan.

REP. STANLEY T.

MCGINNIS TORRES
