Sambal, the “Street Leader”

Residents of the hamlet have indicated Iyebukel delegate, Mr. Ngirablau Sambal, has, since taking his seat in the NSA, looked after the interest of the residents of hamlet from day one.

“He gave his first check as an assemblyman to the elderly women of the hamlet as an initial indication of what he intends to do – to make sure that the residents are looked after,” said one resident.

According to some residents, Sambal has been nicknamed the “Street Leader” for his effort in trying to resolve issues in the hamlet from the street level up.

“Just this Christmas, he made every effort to be with his people,” said one resident.

The residents were impressed when Sambal gave his last 2009 paycheck as gift to the church, which many of the residents are members of.

The residents said that Sambal is an exceptional assemblyman. They said he is courteous, down-to earth, and most of all, knows what is needed.

“He is not rich nor does he have any established political networks as some of the other assemblymen,” one resident said, “But, he with and for us.He has done so since he was first elected.”

In an interview with Sambal, he said he would much rather be called a “Street Worker” rather than a “Street Leader.”

“I am humbled that the people of my hamlet keep track of my efforts,” Sambal said.“However, I do what I do because I took an oath to do so. Further, I consider myself as one who must serve the people and I try as best I can to serve my people.I hope that others will understand that I do what I do for no political reasons.”

Sambal further added that he loves to work for and with his people.

There are some who say that Sambal has launched an early political campaign; however, Sambal said that it is too early to launch any campaigns and “I am not even sure if I will run during the next election.”

Some residents of Iyebukel hamlet have indicated that they will vote for Sambal even if he does not file to run for office again.

“We must not let a good man go,” they said. “We intent to keep him in office. He is our ‘Street Leader.’
