Romana Anastacio was among the nine legislators that the residents of Ngchesar elected on November 27 but she was also elected into a gubernatorial position by her co-legislators during an assembly on Tuesday, January 5.
Anastacio defeated Duane Hideo by two votes when she got nine votes while Hideo got seven votes.
There were 16 voting members who nominated Anastacio and Hideo during the election on Tuesday.
Ngchesar State has a Parliamentary kind of government and it is the legislators who will elect for Governor of the State.
Hideo an incumbent legislator and former Governor of Ngchesar ranked number one at the General Election on November 27.
He got total votes of 210 followed by Isebong Saito with 201.
Hideo was the Governor of Ngchesar from 2002 through 2003.
Anastacio landed third with 190 votes followed by Jackson Doktok with 183 votes, Gabriel Wasisang 180 votes and Zacheus Kotaro with 171 votes.
Ngchesar’s outgoing governor Florencio Adelbai landed seventh with 147 votes followed by Marcello Ngirkelau with 140 votes and Martha K. Rechelluul with 138 votes.
Adelbai was the Governor of the State from 2007 through Jan 5, 2010.
The newly elected Legislators and Governor were also sworn-in to the office on Tuesday after the election.
The Palau Election Commission’s result stated that the total registered voters for Ngchesar is 547 and 318 or 58 percent of the residents cast their votes.
The other candidates of the Legislature At-Large were Lorenzo Mekreos, Rosy Rosita Saburo, Junior “Utun” Albert and Calvin Ramarui.
