Stop HIV” Defender Condom” project launched

This condom named as “Defender” is the first ever Palau packaged condom introduced as a part of Condom Social Marketing of the MSIP.

The project was made possible with the active participation of the Palauan youth.

The youth were encouraged to participate in the project to promote awareness against the disease.

Aminisitai Koroi, MSIP Regional Project coordinator, said promoting the use of condom is part of educating the public as the rate of people with HIV infection is growing.

Based on the statistics showed by MSIP, out of the six billion population worldwide, 56 million are infected with HIV and 49 million died from the disease.

According to the Ministry of Health records, there are eight people infected with HIV.

“The aim of our program is not only to stop pregnancy but to stop the spreading of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, particularly the HIV/AIDS.” Koroi said in an interview.

The packaged condom is available in all retail outlets, hotels, supermarkets and other establishments sold at an affordable price.

“One pack of defender, contains three pieces inside and only cost 50 cents.” Koroi added.

Aside from the Condom Social Marketing, the MSIP is also conducting Sexual Reproductive Health Clinical Services and Voluntary Counseling and Testing Services.

The MSIP has an office in Fiji, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.
