Harvest Market has five containers consigned by the shipping company.
Mayor Melchor A. Mendiola immediately ordered all municipal government personnel in-charge at the port to process and accommodate all the cargoes, she said.
The mayor was not available for interview yesterday.
On Feb. 11, the mayor asked Gov. Benigno R. Fitial to provide “a more lasting solution” to Rota’s problems with the current shipping service.
The mayor said the use of a barge requires a very calm ocean condition to enter the port.
The barge was unable to enter the island’s port because of the worsening sea condition, and this resulted in a shortage of basic food supplies on Rota, the mayor told Fitial.
“All retail stores supplying basic goods to the people are out of stock and the use of air transportation would result in inflationary pricing that will be prohibitive to the people,” the mayor said.
He told the governor that the present shipping service was “never satisfactory to those served as experienced in the past and at present.”
Mrs. Mendiola said they were informed by the shipping management that its vessel that services Rota is backed on its regular operation before the end of February after it was dry docked for standard maintenance.
