Local eye clinic accepted into network for diabetic eye research

“We are pleased to announce that Marianas Eye Institute has been accepted into the network administered by the National Eye Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health,” Marianas Eye Institute ophthalmologist Dr. David Khorram said.

Getting accepted into the network of eye care centers will help Marianas Eye Institute keep abreast with the rapidly advancing field of diabetic eye care and help them address the unknown questions.

Marianas Eye Institute is in the middle of a rigorous certification process, but it expects to begin enrolling interested patients within the next few weeks.

Khorram was among a panel of expert ophthalmologists interviewed in the January 2010 issue of two national publications.

The first article appeared in Ophthalmology Management titled “Intraoperative Cataract Complications:  Top Surgeons Offer Help for Those Critical Moments.”  The article focused on teaching other doctors how to prevent complications during cataract surgery.

Khorram’s second interview appeared in the “Retinal Physician” in which he shared his expertise in patient safety. Khorram got a chance to give a detailed description of how Marianas Eye Institute ensures the safety of the patients during fluorescein angiography, a test which is commonly performed for diabetic retinopathy.

Khorram said  as a result, other doctors from around the country have sought to implement the protocol followed by Marianas Eye Institute’s protocol in their own offices.
