He was one of the trainers during the PSS statewide professional development activity held last week which discussed the importance of “working smart without sacrificing time with family.”
“The class teaches basic techniques on these subjects. So that they can have quality time at work and good reviews as well as good productivity,” said Arenovski.
He said “time management is one of the premiere topics to teach professionals because most people think time management just has to do with work.”
Participants learned that time management has to do with personal time, family time, and time at work.
“They have to understand how to manage things at home and have time for just themselves. They need to know how to manage their people, their bosses and their projects and schedule them out so they don’t bring work at home and home to work,” said Arenovski.
He stressed that planning is a major function of time management. “You don’t want the stress and the negative things that come from bad planning, which affects productivity in the job,” said Arenovski.
A business-like attitude toward customer service at a government agency is also essential, he added. “Understand that the customers are the taxpayers,” he said.
He talked about the significance of helping PSS visitors with what they need, asking for their concerns, and leading them to areas of the office where they have to do business or meet with the staff members.
They should also positively interact with the people around them and understand the differences among them.
“People have different thoughts, come from different places and have different goals. But they should all work on how to achieve a common goal,” Aranevski said.
The whole day training for the PSS administrative staff included communication exercises and team building activities.
“What we’re trying to do is give PSS, in the limited time they have, a lot of information,” said Arenovski, the current vice president of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.
The training was held at Hopwood Junior High School on Thursday.
