Yap High School prepares for WASC review

As of now, the only FSM accredited high school is Xavier High School in Chuuk while  PICS, in Pohnpei, has been working toward accreditation for over six years.

An accreditation team has been formed by the FSM National Department of Education, and it is monitoring four pilot schools, one of which is Yap High School, which aims to be the first Yap school to be WASC accredited.

The reason for the accreditation is to raise the standard at the high school.

But in order to become accredited certain requirements must be met, which include but are not limited to building/safety codes, classroom sizes, teacher to student ratio, and active participation of parents and community in school events/issues/activities.

Moreover, staff and teachers would have to have certain degrees or a certain level of education to continue teaching.

Also the students would be expected to perform at a high level, which means they should be able to achieve a certain GPA to continue education at the school.
