MHS shines in Chamoru language competition

With 22 participants from Saipan, Tinian, Guam and Rota, it was a competitive even for the students as they display their talents.

“This was a good year. Before, we only had about three public high schools participating. This year, we have high school and private school competitors, so it’s pretty big, it’s nice to see more people participate in this event” said Patty Cruz, coordinator of the MHS Chamorro Club.

She added, “We did really well, we worked really hard and we managed to place in six out of seven categories.”

Only one other CNMI school garnered the same number of awards, Grace Christian Academy-Tinian.

There were some disputes regarding judging.  A participant felt that it was “biased” as there were no judges from Saipan.

But MHS Chamorro Club advisor Jojo Alepuyo said: “The performers are mostly freshmen, they’re young, they’re full of energy, and they’ll have the next three years to rake in more awards.”

Cruz at the same time thanked Bobby Cruz, the parents and guardians of the competitors for all their help and assistance to the MHS team.
