Prosecutor Busenkell resigns

In an interview, Santos said Katie Busenkell tendered her resignation effective at the end of this month.

Variety learned that Busenkell reported for work on Friday, her last day in office.

“It’s always sad to lose an employee, but we have to respect her personal decision,” Santos said.

Busenkell could not be reached for comment.

Santos said the AGO’s criminal division is “fully functional” despite Busenkell’s resignation.

Santos said there are five prosecutors assigned to the Superior Court.

A former law clerk of Associate Judge David Wiseman, Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Dockter was recently hired.

Former Assistant Attorney General Matthew Meyer has also resigned and is currently a counsel for the Legislative Bureau.

Last year, Assistant Attorney General Kevin Lynch resigned as chief prosecutor. Deputy Attorney General Gregory Baka also resigned.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial appointed Santos as chief prosecutor last Jan. 2010. Santos, a former Republican House member, lost her re-election bid, but backed the Covenant Party in the gubernatorial runoff.
