PMA renovation no schedule set yet

KOROR (Palau Horizon) – The Palau Mission Academy’s dilapidating gymnasium is up for renovation, however the school’s Principal Jari Martin said that there is no schedule set yet for the repairs.

In a telephone interview, Martin said that there is already money available for the materials of stage 1. But have not purchased yet the materials as the US Army Civic Action Team (CAT) has not set any schedule to start the project.

Martin, however said the project will probably commence on January of next year.

During the Civic Action Coordinating Committee (CACC) meeting last week, US Army CAT officer- in- charge First Lt. Christopher Gensler said that the PMA gym needs to be renovated because it is dilapidated and no longer safe for the students to use.

In the meeting it was suggested that a new one is built instead of renovating the gym.

The PMA Gym is among the approved projects of CACC together with Palau High School, Ngardmau Police/Fire-sub station, Ngiwal access road and others to be done by the US Army team.

Martin said they are still using the gym but in rare events, especially during the Physical Education activities.

The cost of the project is approximately $150,000 to $200,000 according to Martin.

The fund for the renovation will be shouldered by the school and the rest are grants from Guam Micronesia nation.

The beams and the gym’s roof , badly needed renovation. One of the planned renovation is to place the rooftop in a higher position than its original structure.
