FSM’s Vice President Alik ends Yap visit

Alik headed  a delegation from the FSM national government which arrived Yap over the weekend to attend the inauguration of Yap State Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility which took place at the location of the ARFF Building at Yap International Airport on Monday.

Members of the FSM delegation also included Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Communication & Infrastructure Francis Itimai, Assistant Secretary of the Division of Civil Aviation Massy Halbert and other staff of the department.

Alik and his delegation  departed from Yap with a stopover on Guam before continuing on to Pohnpei.

In other news, Yap State Court Chief Justice Cyprian J. Manmaw, and administrative director Andy Choor, along with FSM Supreme Court’s acting Chief Justice Martin Yinug, were Yap’s participants in the 2010 Pacific Judicial Council Executive Conference and Training recently concluded in  Chuuk.

The event was hosted by Chief Justice Camillo Noket and his Chuuk State Supreme Court staff.

In attendance were the chief justices and administrators from member jurisdictions of the Pacific Judicial Council which included the courts of American Samoa, Palau, the CMNI, Guam, the FSM Supreme Court, and the state courts of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnei, and Yap.

The training portion of the event was led by presenter Lori Karin from the Department of Homeland Security. The focus of her presentation was on human resource management.

The council’s executive board members and education committee also had a chance to meet after the training to discuss and approve future training programs for the courts.

Observers of the event included the chief judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Consuelo Marshal, and her education specialist, Sally Pym.

These observers are responsible that funding for this and future council training sessions are made possible through U.S. funds.
