Next week, Liberation Day Committee chairman Jonas Barcinas said they will start distributing application forms which can also be obtained from the Saipan mayor’s office or Tina Pangelinan, this year’s Liberation Queen chairwoman.
The committee wants candidates from different ethnic groups, schools and also from Rota and Tinian.
“The more candidates we have, the better,” Barcinas said.
Last year, only four candidates joined the competition.
Barcinas said he has already talked with the mayors of Rota and Tinian regarding the Liberation Queen contest, which is primarily a fundraising event.
Candidates must have sponsors and the support of their relatives.
Barcinas said they want each junior high school in the CNMI represented in the Liberation Queen contest.
He is hoping to finalize the program for the Liberation Queen next week.
Each application, he added, will be evaluated by the committee.
Once her application is approved, a candidate can immediately start her fundraising and solicitation activities.
Barcinas said the committee has yet to decide the deadline for the submission of applications and the coronation day of the Liberation Queen.
Last year’s Liberation Queen was Isabel Rosa Maria Castro Muna, a student of Kagman High School.
