Convict pardoned

Mikel has also been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and vehicle theft.

In 1975, Mikel was charged and convicted of indecent assault of a minor and was sentenced to four years imprisonment, all suspended on conditions, except for the first one month which was served at Koror jail.

According to Court records, on March 23, 1975, “Bruce Mikel did unlawfully take indecent and improper liberties with a nine-year old female child without committing or intending to commit the crime of rape or carnal knowledge.”

Mikel pleaded guilty to the charge before Associate Judge Benjamin N. Oiterong.

His four-year sentence, however, was suspended on conditions that he will not drink alcoholic beverageor use drugs prohibited by law, and that he was not “allowed to leave Palau without express written consent of Probation officer or this court.”

Court records also reveal that on May 20, 1993, Bruce Mikel pleaded guilty to marijuana trafficking and was sentenced five years imprisonment in the Koror jail. Imposition of the sentence was also suspended, and the defendant was placed instead on five years’ probation.

Mikel performed 500 hours of community service involving anti-substance abuse, paid $1,000 bond and was not allowed to leave Palau without permission of the Court.

Records of his two other cases, involuntary manslaughter and vehicle theft, were not available.
