Syed: Don’t listen to Buckingham

Instead of dealing with the CNMI Department of Labor, guest workers should coordinate with the federal ombudsman and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Syed said.

“This is already a federal matter,” he said, referring to CNMI labor issues.

Buckingham is urging guest workers to continue dealing with the CNMI Department of Labor.

As recommended during a recent forum with federal officials, Syed said guest workers who are “confused” about labor matters  should contact Walter Haith, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services field office director for Guam and the CNMI.

His e-mail address is [email protected].

“They can also go to Federal Ombudsman Pam Brown’s office at the Marina Heights II Building in Puerto Rico,” he said.

Protest

On April 10, guest workers will convene at the American Memorial Park amphitheater to protest the P.L. 17-1 or the alien registration law, he said.

He said they will also finalize a legal action that will question what he described as a “discriminatory” law.

Syed said they have already consulted several lawyers.
