“It was exciting to see the forms at the Post Office,” said Rebecca-Diaz-Cartagena, CNMI Census Advisor. “We have been working very hard to have everything begin on time and having the forms delivered today makes this possible. I would like to thank the USPS acting Postmaster Jackie V. Camacho for her support” she added.
The second group of 2010 CNMI Census forms will be delivered to all private mailbox customers soon. “Once we have the arrival date confirmed we will make a public announcement. We are grateful to the private mailbox companies for assisting us in getting forms to their customers once they arrive,” Diaz Cartagena said. In addition, there will be several pick-up locations for residents who do not have mailboxes or share with another person. Locations will be announced once the forms arrive.
Last week, a letter from U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Groves explained that the official 2010 CNMI Census forms would be delivered this week. All residents are asked to pick up the form from their box, fill it out and keep it until a census worker visits your household to pick up the completed form.
Training continues this week as staff work on final preparations for the CNMI Census to begin on April 1. “Our staff are ready for April 1 or D-Day as well call it,” said Juan Borja, Local Census Office manager. “The many months of preparation have paid off and we are ready to start visiting homes this week and collecting forms from all CNMI residents; both citizens and non-citizens,” he added.
Census workers will begin to visit all CNMI villages on April 1 and residents should expect to see a Census worker sometime in April through early May. Census workers will be wearing yellow shirts with the Census logo on the front and back that say “Staff” and have identification badges visible at all times. All Census workers have been instructed to show their badge when approaching homes to identify that they are official CNMI Census staff. Census workers will be in the villages in the evenings and on weekends when the majority of residents will be home.
Multi-language telephone assistance for 2010 CNMI Census forms will be available beginning April 1 by calling 288-3040. For other inquiries, call 288-3023/27.
