Aldan beats Rebuenog by 20 votes

Rebuenog’s camp had yet to issue a statement to the Variety.

Election commissioners, led by Chairwoman Frances Sablan, manually counted the ballots in the presence of representatives from the Office of the Public Auditor and the Attorney General’s Office.

Cecilia T. Celis represented Rebuenog during the tabulation of votes.

An officer from the Department of Public Safety was also present.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Election Commission Executive Director Robert Guerrero announced Aldan’s victory.

Guerrero said of the 131 registered voters of the Northern Islands, 85 cast their ballots at the commission’s office.

Four of these ballots were rejected.

There were also 39 absentee ballots.

Shortly after announcing the winner, the election commissioners met to certify the result.

Campaign financial disclosure reports are due on May 15.

In the November elections, Aldan won by one vote over Rebuenog who then challenged the eligibility of 18 voters.

The Superior Court conducted  a recount which gave Rebuenog a two-vote margin of victory.

But the Supreme Court vacated the trial court’s decision and ordered a new election.
