Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman will continue the jury trial tomorrow, with the defense presenting its witnesses.
Firefighter Officer Combiniano Taisakan is in trial for theft and possession or removal of government property.
He was arrested in 2009 and is currently out on bail.
Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher presented five witnesses yesterday.
Assistant Public Defender Matthew Holley, who is representing Taisakan, earlier told jurors that the defendant had a boat engine which was missing.
The defense also said that Taisakan’s boat engine was then being kept in a storage room, together with other boat engines belonging to the government.
When Gallagher presented its exhibit, a boat engine, government witnesses identified the boat engine as the one sold by Taisakan to his colleague, Firefighter George Rios.
Rios testified that he asked Taisakan if the defendant knew of a boat engine being sold.
The defendant then sold to him a boat engine worth $300.
Rios initially paid $100 and an additional $40.
Rios said it was discovered that the boat engine had a government tag while it was being cleaned.
Department of Public Safety Internal Affairs Sgt. Joseph Flores testified that the boat engine in the courtroom was the same boat engine that Taisakan claimed to be his.
Flores also checked with the Division of Procurement and Supply and the serial number indicated that the boat engine was the property of the Northern Islands mayor’s office.
