MP United Football Club crowned champions

Marianas Variety learned yesterday, that M.P. United Football Club was very impressive this year winning all of their matches and tying one match.  Yesterday, Mr. Jerry Tan, President of NMIFA (Northern Mariana Islands Football Association) and Ed Salas, General Secretary of NMIFA presented the trophy to some of the players of M.P. United Football Club.

The Golden Boot Award was presented to Joe Miller of M.P. United Football Club by Ed Salas, General Secretary of NMIFA.  This awarded is presented to a player with the most goals scored in the season.  Coming into last Sunday’s match, Joe Miller scored nineteen (19) goals and scored two (2) goals yesterday against the Young Guns for a final total goals of twenty-one (21).

The Men’s League and Invitational Tournament commenced on March 07, 2010 and ended last Sunday, July 25th.  It was played every Sunday beginning at 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with three matches scheduled each Sunday.  The League was interrupted on June 20th and no matches were scheduled on that day due to the 2010 Marianas Cup. The majority of the matches were played at the Susupe Ada Sports ComplexField.

The season was a success, and it was great to see a different champion this time around.  The prior three seasons was dominated by the Inter-Godfather’s team winning the championship three consecutive times. The league had eight teams with a little over two hundred players participating.

Special thanks to all the players and sponsors and all that participated for making this league a success.  Special thanks also to the NMIFA Men’s Committee, chaired by Jaime Saiki for putting together the Invitational Tournament and the Referees for being there every Sunday to officiate the matches.
