CPA heeds Manglona’s plea

Starting Aug. 1, the Saipan commuter terminal parking lot will be open to the public free of charge.

In his letter, CPA acting Executive Director Edward M. Mendiola informed Manglona that the CPA board of directors has terminated the parking lot charges at the commuter terminal.

Manglona, Ind.-Rota, earlier asked CPA Executive Director Edward M. Deleon Guerrero to remove the toll booth that charges parking fee at the commuter terminal, saying it costs more than the revenue it generates monthly.

He told Deleon Guerrero that the booth causes inconvenience to  domestic travelers.

The booth was supposed to help CPA generate additional revenue.

In an earlier interview, Manglona said CPA should put the booth away from where people can drop and pick up domestic travelers.

He said people who drop and pick passengers at the international terminal do not have go through the toll booth.

“So why give such inconvenience to the domestic travelers?” he asked.

The physical layout of the terminal, he added, can be changed so domestic travelers don’t have to go through the toll booth.
