Me, I suggest SETI@Home or ROSETTA@Home for projects. The former helps astronomers check for signs of intelligent life in the stars and the latter is involved in research that relates to diseases.
The point is that MOST computers are idle (asleep) much of the time but can be used to help on major projects.
Pick YOUR cause and help out. It’ll make you feel a little bit better.
