A defendant in the Pink Pawnshop robbery last October that left two people hurt, Martin changed his plea as the trial court was in the process of selecting prospective jurors.
Martin’s others charges were dismissed by the court while the charges against Martin’s co-defendant Zhuo Fan Zhang, the driver of the getaway vehicle, were dismissed without prejudice.
The third defendant Fernando Quitano is awaiting trial.
According to the prosecution, Martin and Quitano robbed the Pink Pawnshop last Oct. 23, 2009 after being dropped off by Zhang.
Martin was represented by Assistant Public Defender Mike Brown.
Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher, who is prosecuting the case, said the government has “overwhelming evidence” against Martin.
Gallagher also lauded the critical role of two people in the arrest and resolution of the case.
“They both deserve the respect and gratitude of the people of the CNMI,” Gallagher said, referring to the volunteerism of the two people who called 911 and reported the robbery incident, gave foot chase, and helped in the arrest of Martin, and later identified the defendants.
