Big turnout at NMC Career Fair

NMC career services program manager II Heather M. Santos, this year’s event  chairwoman, noted the bigger turnout of students and participating organizations compared to last year.

She said they will evaluate the inputs from the organizations and the students so they can further improve the fair next year.

“We are looking forward to inviting more businesses next year so we can offer a lot of career opportunities to the students,” she said.

This year’s event was held at Building D of NMC.

Daniel Kaipat of Kagman High School said he was “impressed” by the Career Fair. He expressed interest to join Power 99 as a DJ.

The other participating organizations included Coastal Resource Management, Wells Fargo Financial, Marianas Variety, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CNMI Office of Personnel Management, U.S. Coast Guard, Marianas Health Services, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Pacific Islands Club, Marianas Medical Clinic, Joeten Enterprises, Department of Public Health, U.S. Social Security Administration, Sorenson Media Group, Tan Holdings, the Public School System and the NMC human resources office.

Sfc. Robert Gonzales of the U.S. Army said it was their first time to join the event.

“What’s the catch here for the students is the service to the country, opportunity for education and career,” he said, referring to the Army.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. also had its booth.

CUC power division manager Gary Camacho said they wanted  to give students a chance to learn about career opportunities at the utilities agency.

Aside from NMC students, some senior students of Kagman High School also visited the Career Fair.

Jaylynn Torres said she learned lot of information about career opportunities.

“I like the job opportunities,” said Joana Narita who remains undecided regarding the career she should choose when she graduates from high school.

Another senior student, Joseph Yamada, said he likes to study at NMC.

The fair, he said, was very helpful to the students. But he is hoping that next year’s event will present more job opportunities.
