From the tee off in the seventh fairway, Yumul who opted for a pitch 5-iron, was at the very least, just aiming for a birdie putt which Yoshihiro Kitami, William Retardo and Manny Mangarero shot in the same three-par hole for the A Flight tournament. The ball went up for a laser-like flight, landed close south of the flag and disappeared into the hole, sending Yumul and other few golfers around him into jubilation.
Yumul received his $25,000 prize from HANMI and Traders Insurance during the awards banquet that followed at night at the Fiesta Resort & Spa.
For the tournament however, Yumul who fired 5-over par 41 in the front nine and struggled in the back shooting 46, tied with Maasaki Nakamura in 87 gross to battle for the 10th place.
The golfer who topped the A Flight was Tim Goodwin who finished two strokes over par 74. He went at-par 36 in the front nine and 2-over par 38 in the back.
The next happiest golfer that day was of course, the top finisher in the Championship Flight.
Seoung Kim-Gi had enough birdie putts in the front nine where he fired three strokes under par 33. Then, he went 1-over par 37 in the back nine to finish 2-under par 70 to win the first place in the Championship Flight.
Jason Yi went at-par in both nines to finish the course in 72 strokes to win the second place, and Ju Lee Geon settled for the third place firing 1-over par 73.
NMI ace golfer, Jess Wabol was in the fourth place as he shot 2-over par 74, followed by Won Lee Jong who 75.
In the B Flight, Ned Norita fired 4-over par 40 in both nines to finish with a gross of 80; Yeon Kim Gyu and Bob Hudkins tied in 81 gross and Father Manny Corcuera shot 84.
Also bringing home $500 and a first place trophy was C Flight top golfer, Gerald Guerrero who shot 97, Senior Flight first placer, Toshiyuki Mori who shot 74 and Lady’s Flight winner, Kim Leina who shot 71.
