NMI has under-used resources for potential businesses

Liddle, who was yesterday’s speaker at the Rotary Club of Saipan meeting at the Hyatt, said there are a lot of untapped business opportunities that can bring more tourists to the islands.

Liddle said the CNMI’s beaches and pristine waters provide businessmen with opportunities in scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, boating and other marine activities.

Liddle said the airstrips and taxiways on Tinian can also provide business opportunities, as well as the Kalabera Cave and other sites on Saipan.

“What the SBDC does is to offer a potential businessperson an outsider’s point of view of what may be or may not be productive in a particular business,” Liddle said.

Upcoming training schedules

Liddle is urging businesses to acquire new information by joining high quality training and consultation sessions.

On Aug. 17 and 18, Liddle said the SBDC is hosting five free workshops that are aimed to “improve your business prowess and prepare you as you consider starting a new business in the near future.”

The FastTrack Growth Venture 5-part series will be held at American Memorial Park.

Topics to be covered on Aug. 17 include “Sizing up Your business” from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p..m.; “Exploring Growth Opportunities” from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.; and “How to Determine Market Potential” from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The workshop on Aug. 18 will cover “Making Strategic Decisions” from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and “Using Financial Tools” from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.

Conducting the workshop is Denise Mendiola Hertslet, a certified small business counselor and executive director of the Pacific Islands Microcredit Institute which administers the first and only microcredit loan program on Guam.

To join the free workshops, visit the SBDC office at the Department of Commerce Building on Capital Hill or call Tracy or Liddle at 664-3018.
