KOROR (Palau Horizon) – PALAUAN student Izumi Yamamoto is Guam Community College class valedictorian.
Yamamoto, who has earned an associate of science with honors in hospitality industry, is a native Palauan who used to attend Koror Elementary School here.
Donald Haruo, businessman and Peleliu legislator said that his cousin at a young age has already shown determination and hard work.
In March, GCC celebrated the graduation of 366 students and one of the students who graduated was Yamamoto.
Haruo said Yamamoto is an impressive young woman who was able to pursue her studies and at the same time work in order to finance her schooling.
Haruo said Yamamoto and her mother Gina Ngiratreked moved to Guam after high school.
Yamamoto is employed with Japan Airlines’ administration and accounting department.
“We are very proud of her for achieving her goal although they are poor,” Haruo said.
He added that Yamamoto and family are planning a visit to Palau this summer.
